Berman Tucker
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Berman Tucker, 85, died Friday, February 26, 2010, at Hospice Savannah. He was a native of Evans County, GA, but lived most of his life in Savannah. He owned Tucker Oil Company and also retired after 18 years of service with Savannah Coca-Cola. During WWII, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Savannah. He enjoyed car racing, fishing, sports and golf. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Irene Lewis Tucker. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy & Pam Tucker, Terry B. & Jean Ann Tucker, Thomas F. & Mary Ann Tucker; six grandchildren, Aaron, Kathleen, Matthew, Kelly, Phillip and Frank; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Byron Tucker, Bobby Tucker, Larry Spence; sister, Bonnie Price; and several nieces & nephews. THUNDERBOLT, GEORGIA - Arthur “Art” Lyle Anthony, 86, of Thunderbolt, Georgia, husband of Elease Purcell Anthony, died Thursday evening, December 31, 2009, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Odyssey Hospice. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Lyle Anthony and the late Winifred Grimes Anthony. Mr. Anthony was a charter member of First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a former Trustee, Treasurer, Sunday school superintendent and Deacon. He retired after 40 years of service as a switch foreman for Southern Railroad. He was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II. Mr. Anthony loved gardening and after most days at work he would spend time afterwards working at his church. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Elease Purcell Anthony of Thunderbolt, Georgia; one daughter, Linda Anthony Lee of Pembroke, Georgia; one son, Wayne A. Anthony and his wife, Faye, of Thunderbolt, Georgia; three grandchildren, Deryle Thomas Lee and his wife, Christie, Gina Lee Futch, and Jennifer Marie Anthony and her husband, Steven Blitch; one sister, Lois DuPree and her husband, Carl, of Frankfort, Indiana, and one brother, Stanley Anthony and his wife, Marilyn, of Chicago, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 12 o'clock Wednesday morning at First Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday in the First Free Will Baptist Church conducted by The Reverend Michael Locklear and The Reverend Henry J. Van Kluyve. John "Winton" Driggers
Savannah/Glennville - John "Winton" Driggers, 86, went home to be with his Heavenly Father and his beloved wife on October 29, 2007. He was born in Liberty County and lived most of his life in Savannah, where he retired from Savannah Electric and Power Company after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Third Armored Division and participating in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a charter member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, having served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and as Chairman of the Deacon Board. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Kicklighter Driggers. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Don and Linda Driggers of Savannah; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Royce Joiner of Savannah; sister, Mrs. Marlin Unger of Savannah; foster sisters Mrs. A. L. Anthony of Savannah and Mrs. Earl McCoy of Martinez; foster brother Ennis Purcell of Savannah; two grandsons, two grandaughters and three great-grandchildren.Visitation: 1:00 to 3:00 pm on thursday, November 1, 2007. Savannah/Glennville - Nell Kicklighter Driggers, 79, died January 1, 2003, at Spanish Oaks Retreat in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a charter member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Savannah, GA, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Youth Worker. Willie "Bill" Arban
Willie "Bill" Arban, 89, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at his residence under the care of his loving family and VistaCare/Odyssey Hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lorene Arban. He was born and raised in Decatur, AL. Bill was a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, having served during World War II in the Signal Corp. Following his discharge, he moved to Savannah in 1946 where he spent most of his career as an automobile salesman. At the time of his retirement, Bill was with Backus Cadillac-Pontiac where he received many awards as Top Salesman. He was a faithful member of First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon as well as church treasurer for many years. Survivors: He is survived by his wife of six years, Gussie G. Arban, of Savannah; three daughters, Billye (Kennon) Harris, Sherrie (Denney) Harris, all of Savannah, and Beverly (Lee) Futch of Statesboro; four step-children, Vernon (Wynne) Greene, Dexter Greene, Linda (Gean) Bridgman and Judy (Mike) Duncan; six grandchildren, Angie Pelham, Eddie Dukes, Toni Hendley, Brian Futch, Jason Futch, Chris Harris; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Charley, J.C. and Hollis Arban; two sisters, Susie Batson and Mary Ann Muir; several nieces and nephews. Roger Glenn Crowe, 53, of Savannah, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Memorial Medical Health University. He was born in Johnsons Corner, GA, to Bennie F. Crowe, Sr., and gussie Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie f. Crowe, Sr., brother, Bennie F. Crowe, II, and his sister, Ada "Toby" St. Lawrence. He was a member of the Lighted pathway Class of Bible Baptist Church for over 30 years. He was an active member of the Coastal Center for Developmental Services. He participated in the Ambucs bowling club and the local special Olympics. Survivors: include his devoted mother, Gussie R. Horne of Savannah; brother, John A. Nell Warren Kicklighter
Mrs. Nell Warren "Nana" Kicklighter, 91, left this earth on the Wings of Angels on march 3, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah after a short illness. Nell was born in Stillmore and was a graduate of Stillmore High School, Class of 1927. She received a Teachers Certificate from Georgia Teachers College (now Known as GA southern University). She was a resident of Richmond Hill for the past 12 years and of the Savannah area for over 48 years. She was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan. She was a dedicated member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Svannah for over 49 years and was also a member of the Golden Age Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lethridge R. Kicklighter and son-in-law, Carroll H. Strickland. Survivors: include daughter, Jowanna K. Strickland of Richmond Hill; son-in-law, Charles Bishop of Orangeburg, SC; sons and daughters-in-law Derrell & Debby Kicklighter of Conway, SC, Warren & Pam Kicklighter of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Elliott and Elaine Kicklighter of Merritt Island, FL; sister, Sue Warren Lee of Augusta, GA; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Charles Kenneth Bishop, Sr., 95, died March 1, 2001 at Hospice Savannah. He was born in Bennettsville, SC, and was a former resident of Orangeburg, SC. He was the widower of Fannie Lee Horne Bishop. He was a veteran, having served in the Army from 1920 to 1923. He was a charter member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, and was retired from Southern Food Distributors as a refrigeration mechanic. James Zelotus Horne, 70, died Saturday, December 7, 1991, at Candler Hospital. The Valdosta native was a member of Frist Free Will Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the trustees. He was retired from the U.S. Civil Service and wa a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gussie Rogers Horne of Savannah; two sons, Johnny Crowe of Augusta, GA, and Roger Crowe of Savannah; a daughter, Mrs. Toby St. Lawrence of Savannah; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie bishop of Savannah and Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson of Hiawassee, GA; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
